President Putin stresses Indonesia-Russia friendship to Jokowi

Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated President-elect Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in a letter from the Kremlin, Moscow, on May 21, 2019, which underlined the importance of Indonesian-Russian relations.
"We, in Russia, know His Majesty as a strong supporter in developing friendly relations between our two countries," Putin said, after opening his letter with congratulations to Jokowi, as quoted by ANTARA from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta, on Wednesday.
President Putin also showed confidence in Jokowi's leadership, to continue to expand bilateral cooperation in various fields and multilateral partnerships in solving actual problems in the Asia-Pacific region.
"I want to emphasize the readiness to continue constructive dialogue with His Majesty, and work together for the benefit of the Russian Nation and the Indonesian Nation," he said.
Putin closed his letter by expressing his hope for the success, health and well-being of Jokowi, who will carry out his duties as president of Indonesia for a second term.
On May 21, the General Election Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia officially announced Jokowi-Ma'ruf as the winner in the 2019 Presidential Election.
The vote count showed that the Jokowi-Ma'ruf Amin pair won 85 million votes, or 55.50 percent of the total national vote, while the challenger, Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno, earned 68 million votes, or 44.5 percent of the total national vote.
